Brant Point Lighthouse, Nantucket

First light at Brant Point goes back to 1746, making it America's second oldest lighthouse. What stands today is the tenth structure on this site — predecessors torn down by nor'easters, condemned, or burned. The current tower dates to 1901. It is not open to climb. But you'll see it twice: once as your ferry approaches the harbor, and again if you toss a coin into the water on the way out — local tradition holds it guarantees your return.
