Pen Park

Good forFamiliesOutdoor lovers

The name has held for more than 200 years, and by 1979 the city had assembled all 280 acres of it — the largest park inside Charlottesville, the one Park Street is named after. The Rivanna runs along the back edge; the trail follows it for a mile and a half. There's an 18-hole golf course, a fitness course with 10 exercise stations, picnic shelters, tennis, and a pollinator garden. Three acres are set aside for an all-abilities play space, built in partnership with Bennett's Village.
