Founded in 1963 by a small group of Rhode Island citizens, Trinity Rep became the first American theater company to perform at the Edinburgh International Festival, won the Tony Award for Outstanding Regional Theater in 1981, and has never stopped working. The company operates out of the Lederer Theater Center — a former vaudeville house on Washington Street — with two performance spaces and an educational outreach program that reaches over 15,000 high school students annually. It remains the last longstanding resident acting company in the country.
