Mabry Mill

National Register of Historic Places
Good forOutdoor loversFood & drink loversHistory buffs

Ed Mabry built the mill between 1905 and 1910 using hand-hewn lumber. It sits at Blue Ridge Parkway Milepost 176, near Meadows of Dan in Floyd County. The waterwheel is an overshot design: water pours over the top, the most efficient method for low-flow mountain streams.

The Matthews Cabin and blacksmith shop stand adjacent, recreating early 20th-century mountain life. The mill is on the National Register of Historic Places. The restaurant serves cornmeal pancakes, country ham, and blackberry cobbler made with stone-ground meal from the mill. Open May through October. Free to visit; restaurant and gift shop on site.
