Sisters' downtown holds to an Old West architectural code requiring false-front facades and wooden sidewalks on modern buildings — a deliberate identity the town built around itself starting in the 1970s. The result is a walkable commercial strip of galleries and outfitters anchored each July by the Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show, recognized as the largest outdoor quilt show in the world, drawing more than 10,000 attendees annually.
