Good forHistory buffs
The largest independent oceanographic research institution in the United States sits at the southwestern tip of Cape Cod, in the village of Woods Hole. Founded in 1930 with a Rockefeller Foundation grant of $2.5 million, WHOI has since located the wreck of the RMS Titanic, recovered debris from Air France Flight 447, and operates the deep-diving submersible Alvin. Graduate degrees are awarded through a joint program with MIT. The Discovery Center and summer tours are open to the public.
