Ohlone Village Site at La Brea / Rumsien Heritage

The Rumsien Ohlone people have inhabited the Monterey Bay region since time immemorial — western science places human presence here as far back as 15,000 years. Officially unrecognized by the federal government, contemporary Ohlone communities hold no protected land base, yet continue to carry forward cultural practices and maintain their responsibilities to these ancestral lands.
