Rosecliff

National Register of Historic Places
Good forArts & culture lovers

Theresa "Tessie" Fair Oelrichs built Rosecliff on the strength of Nevada silver — her father, James Fair, helped discover the Comstock Lode and left behind a fortune that earned him the nickname "Bonanza King." She commissioned architect Stanford White in 1899 to model the house after King Louis XIV's Grand Trianon at Versailles, and it was completed in 1902. The Preservation Society of Newport County now runs it as a museum open to the public.
