Fortaleza Street (Calle Fortaleza), Old San Juan

Fortaleza Street runs south from La Fortaleza itself — the official residence of Puerto Rico's governor, built as a fortress beginning in 1533 and still in continuous use — connecting the seat of executive power to the rest of Old San Juan's historic quarter. The street's name is the building's name; the address is the argument. Walk it and you're moving through the spine of a colonial capital that Spain held for nearly four centuries before 1898.
