Anastasia State Park

The coquina quarries here predate the park by centuries. Spanish builders quarried the shelly limestone from this ground to construct the Castillo de San Marcos, beginning in the late 1600s. That history now sits inside 1,600 acres of barrier island — four miles of Atlantic beach, tidal marshes, coastal scrub — minutes from downtown St. Augustine. The park runs year-round camping with 139 sites. The quarry is still here, and so is the context for everything built around it.
