Nauset Light

National Register of Historic Places
Good forHistory buffs

The tower standing at Nauset Light Beach was built in 1877 — not here, but in Chatham, where it served as one of two paired lights. It was moved to Eastham in 1923 to replace the Three Sisters, three small wooden lighthouses that had been decommissioned. By the early 1990s, coastal erosion had brought it within 50 feet of a 70-foot cliff. The Nauset Light Preservation Society formed, leased the lighthouse from the Coast Guard, and in November 1996 moved the tower 336 feet west. The light came back on May 10, 1997. The Preservation Society runs tours in summer.
