Edgartown Historic District

Edgartown grew northward from its harbor in a rough crescent, accumulating the Federal and Greek Revival houses of whaling captains until voters listed the whole village on the National Register in 1984. The historic district itself — about 250 homes in the heart of the village — wasn't formally established until 1987, after more than a decade of effort and three failed attempts at town meeting.
