Good forArts & culture lovers
Walter Gropius founded the Bauhaus in Germany, then moved to teach at Harvard in 1937. The architects and intellectuals who followed him to the Outer Cape eventually left behind roughly a hundred mid-century modern houses tucked into the Cape's landscape. Founded in 2007 by architect Peter McMahon, the Cape Cod Modern House Trust works to document and preserve them — collaborating with the National Park Service on houses by Marcel Breuer, Serge Chermayeff, and Charles Zehnder, among others. Several of those houses, including the Kugel-Gips House, are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Tours run most summers.
