Woonasquatucket River Greenway

The Woonasquatucket River — Algonquian for "where the salt water ends" — once marked the edge of tidal Providence. What started in 1993 as one group's push to revitalize Olneyville and its abandoned industrial riverbank has grown into a multi-use greenway running through Providence and into Johnston. The path connects downtown to the outer neighborhoods, mixing on-road segments with off-road stretches close beside the water. Come to move through the city the way it was built — along the river.
