Frenchman Bay Overlook (Bar Harbor Village Green)

The name tells the story before you even look up. French frigates once hid among these islands to ambush British ships passing through, and the bay kept their name. From this first scenic stop on the Park Loop Road, roughly 0.4 miles from the Hulls Cove Visitor Center, you can see the Porcupine Islands, Schoodic Peninsula, Egg Rock, and the unused ferry terminal below. What you're looking at was once among the most productive cod-fishing waters on the East Coast. Nobody fishes for cod here anymore.
