Good forFood & drink lovers
The pond itself is a record of glacial work — 187 acres, 150 feet deep, clear enough that visibility has been measured at 61 feet, the deepest recorded in Maine. The Jordan family gave it their name; in the 1870s, someone built a restaurant on its southern shore. Under the McIntires, who ran it from 1895 to 1946, the place became a fixture for high-society gatherings. The original building burned in June 1979 and was rebuilt through private fundraising. The tradition — tea and popovers on the lawn overlooking the pond — survived all of it.
