Kangaroo Lake

Half a mile from Lake Michigan, Kangaroo Lake is the largest inland lake in Door County — 1,156 acres, a maximum depth of 12 feet, and a marl bottom that keeps it in rare company among undeveloped lakes in the region. A causeway built in the late 1800s divides it into a developed southern portion and a northern end largely left alone by the surrounding wetlands. The Door County Land Trust's first-ever preserve sits here, grown to nearly 700 acres, with a hiking trail that descends 130 feet from an ancient lakeshore ridge to where Peil Creek enters the water.
