Henry Miller Memorial Library

Good forHistory buffs

Emil White built this house for himself in the mid-1960s. After Henry Miller died in 1980, White dedicated the property as a memorial and gallery for local artists, formally organizing the Henry Miller Memorial Library in 1981 with help from the Big Sur Land Trust. White directed it until his death in 1989, when he bequeathed it to the Land Trust. It's open every day, 11 to 5 — a nonprofit arts center, bookstore, and performance venue that takes seriously the obligation to keep Big Sur's literary culture alive.
