Georgia Museum at the Little White House (Unfinished Portrait Display)

The portrait was never finished. On April 12, 1945, while sitting for a portrait in the Little White House, FDR suffered a cerebral hemorrhage and died shortly after. The painting — left exactly as the artist set it down — is now displayed in the museum alongside his 1938 Ford convertible fitted with hand controls and a radio playing recordings of his Fireside Chats. It is the frozen center of a site that draws more than 100,000 visitors a year.
