At 1,395 feet, Dowdell's Knob is the highest point in Harris County and on the Pine Mountain Range — named for Lewis and James Dowdell, Virginia settlers who arrived here in 1828. Roosevelt came often from nearby Warm Springs, and had a brick oven and picnic area built at the summit. The view he came for is still there.
