St. Augustine has been selling its ghost stories since a local historian named Sandy Craig decided overnight school field trip groups needed something to do after dark. More than thirty years ago, she joined forces with local writers and researchers to develop a lantern-lit walking tour through the city's narrow brick streets. That operation grew into Ghost Tours of St. Augustine, now part of Tour Saint Augustine Inc. The company claims to be the first organization to research and catalogue the city's haunted history — and in a town with no shortage of competitors, that founding claim still does the work.
