Cave Point County Park

The rock here is older than dinosaurs — dolomitic limestone shaped during the Silurian period, somewhere between 410 and 440 million years ago, when Wisconsin sat near the Earth's equator. Lake Michigan has been working on it ever since, carving sea caves into the shoreline and forcing water through fractures in the rock that blow spray 15 to 30 feet inland. Three families gifted the land to Door County for preservation, and it became the fifth park added to the county system. The half-mile forest trail connects to Whitefish Dunes State Park, which borders it on three sides. Come in winter if you want to see what the lake does when it's angry.
