Good forArts & culture lovers
Luis A. Ferré opened this museum in 1959 with 72 works in a house on Cristina Street, Ponce — works he'd acquired in Europe that scholars at the time called kitsch. The collection, built on quality over reputation, now holds some 4,500 pieces across fourteen galleries, including one of the most important Pre-Raphaelite collections in the Western Hemisphere. The main building, designed by Edward Durell Stone and opened in 1965, was expanded by more than 40% after a $30 million renovation completed in 2010. The museum received the National Medal for Museum and Library Service in 2021.
