Parque de Bombas

National Register of Historic Places
Good forArts & culture lovers

Built in 1882 as an exhibition pavilion, the red-and-black wooden firehouse on Plaza Las Delicias became Puerto Rico's first fire station the following year. It served that role for more than a century before closing in 1990 and reopening as a firefighting museum. In 1967, the Ponce municipal flag was designed using the firehouse's red and black as its base colors. The inscription inside says it plainly: this building remains symbolically on the plaza, in the heart of the city.
