Northeast Harbor (Village Core)

Northeast Harbor calls itself the quiet side, and it means it. A village within the municipality of Mount Desert rather than a town of its own, it sits at the southern end of Mount Desert Island at the western entrance to Somes Sound. The Rockefeller family kept summers here; Philadelphians arrived in such numbers the place earned the nickname "Philadelphia on the rocks." The marina holds more than 200 yachts in summer. Main Street is two blocks from the water.
